How to Book State Railway of Thailand (SRT) Red-and-White CNR Sleeper Trains
All long-distance Northern, Northeastern (Isan), and Southern sleeper trains now depart from Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal (Bang Sue Grand Station) in Bangkok — linked directly to the MRT Blue Line (Bang Sue Station). Historic Hua Lamphong Station serves only commuter and Eastern lines.
- Official D-Ticket Portal: Book directly on the State Railway of Thailand portal (
dticket.railway.co.th) or 12Go Asia up to 30–90 days in advance (90 days for flagship CNR Special Express trains #9/#10, #23/#24, #25/#26, and #31/#32). - Lower vs. Upper Berth: In 2nd Class AC Sleeper cars, Lower Berths (เตียงล่าง) are wider, have a panoramic window, and cost roughly ฿100 ($2.95) more than Upper Berths (เตียงบน).
- Saved Hotel Night: Boarding an 18:10 or 20:05 sleeper from Krung Thep Aphiwat saves one full hotel night in Bangkok or Chiang Mai (worth ฿1,200–฿3,500) and includes free 30–50 kg baggage allowance.
