Thai Temple (Wat) Dress Code, Royal Family Respect (Lèse-Majesté) & Vaping Ban Guide

What to wear at the Grand Palace and Buddhist temples, rules around monks and Thai Baht banknotes, and why e-cigarettes/vapes are strictly illegal in Thailand.

1. Buddhist Temple (Wat) Dress Code

Cover both shoulders and knees before entering any active Thai temple, and remove your shoes before stepping inside the ordination hall (Ubosot). At Bangkok's Grand Palace & Wat Phra Kaew, strict dress enforcement means men and women must wear ankle-length trousers or long skirts (scarves wrapped over short skirts or ripped jeans are not accepted at the Grand Palace gate). Check any scenario in our Thai Etiquette & Law Checker.

2. Strict Ban on E-Cigarettes / Vapes & Respect for the Monarchy

Thailand strictly prohibits importing or possessing e-cigarettes and vapes, and enforces Criminal Code Article 112 (Lèse-Majesté) protecting the Royal Family. Never step on a rolling Thai coin or banknote, as every denomination bears the King's image.
