How to Beat Thailand's Mandatory ฿220 Foreign ATM Fee & Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC)

  • Every Thai Bank ATM Charges ฿220 ($6.45) Per Foreign Card Withdrawal: Whether you pull ฿2,000 or ฿30,000, the machine adds a flat ฿220 local surcharge. Always withdraw the maximum ฿30,000 ($880) in a single transaction at Bank of Ayudhya / Krungsri (Yellow ATMs) or TMBThanachart (ttb), which dispense up to thirty ฿1,000 notes at once (most other ATMs cap at ฿20,000 or ฿25,000).
  • Always Select "Continue Without Conversion": When a Thai ATM or card terminal offers to bill you in USD, EUR, or GBP, decline conversion so Visa/Mastercard processes the transaction in Thai Baht (฿ THB) without a 4.5%–6% DCC markup.
  • SuperRich Cash Exchange at Suvarnabhumi (BKK): Ride the elevator down to Basement Floor B ( right beside the Airport Rail Link entrance ) where SuperRich Thailand (Green) and SuperRich 1965 (Orange) offer wholesale rates on crisp $100 USD, €50/€100 EUR, and £50 GBP bills—about 5% better than upstairs arrival-hall booths.
  • Thailand 7% Tourist VAT Refund (P.P.10 Yellow Form): Spend at least ฿2,000 (incl. VAT) in a single participating "VAT Refund for Tourists" store on the same day and show your passport to receive a yellow P.P.10 form. If your total claim exceeds ฿20,000 (or includes luxury watches/jewelry/handbags over ฿40,000/฿100,000), get your P.P.10 stamped by Thai Customs before checking your luggage at BKK, DMK, HKT, CNX, or USM.
